Member Opinion Survey (November 2007) re: Tsawwassen Golf Club Redevelopment

As a member-driven organization, the Delta Chamber of Commerce conducted a survey to determine the views of all members regarding the redevelopment of the Tsawwassen Golf & Country Club as proposed by Shato Holdings Ltd. The Chamber’s Board of Directors sought this opinion before submitting any commentary on the project to the Mayor and Council of Delta. >>click here for member survey results >>

The survey was sent out via email on October 18, 2007 and data was collected until November 5, 2007. The response rate was 24% of the full distribution, a statistically valid reflection of all Chamber members’ opinion.

Overall 75% of the survey respondents support the redevelopment project. In general, the respondents from Ladner are the most positive towards the proposed development, but almost 75% from Tsawwassen were also in favour.

While specifically the economic development provided by this project was seen as positive by 78% of all respondents, the survey did reflect concerns or uncertainty among a significant minority about the nature of the project and the possible outcomes related to this change for the community of Tsawwassen in terms of land use and increased traffic congestion.

The survey itself was positively received by chamber members: 85% of respondents believe more member surveys of this type should occur.
