Georgina Wheatcroft at Delta Chamber Networking LuncheonJanuary 26, 2006Delta, B.C. – The Delta Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly business lunch on Wednesday, February 15, 2006. In celebration of the opening of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy, the Chamber has invited Georgina Wheatcroft, two-time World champion curler and Olympic bronze medallist at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games to speak about her journey to become an Olympic athlete, and the significant role that business plays in supporting amateur sport. Ian Tait, Chamber Board member and Director of Legacy Initiatives for 2010 Legacies Now says, “Georgina is an outstanding ambassador for Olympism and her sport. Her presentation will both inform and enlighten us on the importance of communities, businesses, organizations and individuals supporting aspiring athletes and helping them achieve their dreams. I encourage you to attend, listen and help pass on Georgina’s important message.” Georgina is curling with the National Champion rink headed by Jennifer Jones from Manitoba and they have set their sights on representing Canada in Vancouver at the 2010 Winter Games. The team heads to London, Ontario to defend their Championship title at the Scott Tournament of Hearts, February 25 to March 5. The Chamber is pleased to welcome the North Delta Thistle Curling Club and Tsawwassen’s Tunnel Town Curling Club as first-time sponsors. Club representatives will be on hand showcase their programs and discuss how curling is truly a life-long sport that reaches across all ages and skill levels. The Delta Spirit of BC Community Committee will present information about events it has planned to share the spirit right here in Delta. The Committee’s mission is “To Bring the Spirit, Excitement and Benefits of the Games to all of Delta for now, 2010 and beyond." The luncheon takes place at the Delta Coast Tsawwassen Inn, 1665 56th Street in Tsawwassen. Doors open at 11:30 and lunch from 12:00 to 1:30pm.
