Chamber focuses on member value and community relationship with Executive Director appointmentFebruary 28, 2007Delta, B.C. (February 28, 2007) With the aim of building more value for its members and stronger relationships with local communities and governments the Delta Chamber of Commerce has appointed a new Executive Director to support the board and staff in taking new directions. Delta Chamber of Commerce President Maria DeVries announced today that Peter Roaf, a corporate communication strategist, will start as Executive Director on March 1, 2007. In addition to his administrative duties will be his focus on working with the board, staff and members to develop communications and build relationships within the association and throughout the community. Most recently Roaf was a corporate communication director at the senior management level of Vancouver Coastal Health and prior to that at Richmond Health Services. The Vancouver native and Richmond resident has also operated his own communication consulting business, served the province-wide Alberta Research Council in industrial and engineering R&D, based in Edmonton, and worked in local and national current affairs TV and radio for the CBC based in Ottawa. DeVries says: “The board, members and staff have developed a network and positive voice for business over many years. But to add value for our members and take more of a responsible role as corporate citizen on behalf of members we have taken more of an advocacy role in recent years. We started by developing an economic strategy with business and community leaders and now we need to work with not only our members but our community to make that strategy work for all of us here in Delta. Mr. Roaf’s appointment is a key step in that direction.” Founded in 1910 the 500-member Delta Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit association which cultivates a healthy environment for business, industry and commerce, and collaborates with governments and interest groups to achieve a sustainable community, in Delta, British Columbia. In 2005 it was awarded Chamber of the Year by the BC Chamber of Commerce. -- 30 -- For more information, contact: Maria DeVries, President Delta Chamber of Commerce Tel. 604.946.4232 |
