Bylaw 6313

May 24, 2006
The proposed Bylaw 6313 in its present form will have a detrimental impact on decent and law-abiding businesses in Delta. The bylaw proposed by the Municipality of Delta will restrict or remove containers on land in Delta zoned I2.

The businesses affected by the proposed bylaw include the fishing, storage and container sectors.

"We understand Council's concern regarding unsightly operations and agree we should not have a proliferation of containers," said President of the Delta Chamber, Maria DeVries. "However, this bylaw will make it difficult for legitimate businesses to reinvest and plan for the future when their operations are defined as 'legally non-conforming'. This will have a profound impact on businesses in Delta dependent upon container transportation. It could result in businesses moving out of Delta and weakening of the healthy business community".

The Delta Chamber suggests a community task-force of stakeholders including Chamber representatives that will evaluate the problem and recommend alternatives that will clean up the problem and mitigate the negative impact on legitimate businesses in Delta.
