September 13, 2006
DELTA, B.C. – Wednesday September 13, 2006: The Delta Chamber of Commerce voiced its support for the development of the Delsom Estates parcel of land in North Delta at a public hearing Tuesday, September 12, 2006.

In its vision, the chamber supports both economic prosperity and sustainability in Delta. The proposed plan for Delsom Estates is consistent with the chamber’s Sustainable Community Economic Council Strategy. In a position presented to the Corporation of Delta by President Maria DeVries, the chamber said the proposed development will contribute socially and economically to the community of North Delta in an environmentally suitable fashion.

The chamber pointed out this construction project will be the decade’s largest in North Delta. It will provide 850 living units and provide 2,550 person-years of employment. It will create 75 new permanent full-time jobs.

Environmentally, the project makes efficient use of the land with multi-family units and the project links with existing and future transit plans. Existing stands of trees have been retained and considerably more trees will be planted. Geothermal heating and cooling will minimize energy consumption. Habitat will increase through new plantings and a new water feature.

In the submission to City Council, the Delta Chamber encouraged the Mayor and City Council to approve the proposed development pointing out the majority of business owners canvassed by the Chamber in North Delta support the project.
