DELTA, B.C. – Wednesday September 13, 2006: At its first meeting of the 2006-2007 season, Delta Chamber of Commerce president, Maria DeVries promised members a more active role for the chamber in the business affairs of Delta. “We will be active advocates for the businesses of Delta as we meet the challenges of growth and change in our community” she stated. “We will speak out when we like the changes and we will speak out when we do not.”

DeVries promised the chamber will be an active participant in the debates and discussions about what is happening to and planned for Delta. The chamber’s focus will be on the likely impacts of change on Delta business and how these businesses can grow and succeed.

She reviewed some recent involvements of the chamber including the container storage bylaw proposals and the expansion of the airport. These reflect the goals of the chamber to serve business better and to represent business in dealing with the issues of the day.

“We prefer to do this in partnership with the key players in the issues facing Delta. We want to cooperate and collaborate in seeking solutions to our challenges. We will speak up for the interests of the Delta business community” she concluded.

DeVries was introducing the kick-off luncheon for the 2006-2007 Chamber of Commerce programs at the Coast Tsawwassen Inn. Members participated in a panel discussion on corporate social responsibility and community involvement hosted by Terminal Systems CEO Norman Stark and featuring Tom Gibson of Lehigh Northwest Cement and Bev Brown of Envision Financial
