The Delta Chamber of Commerce would like to congratulate the Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN) on the Tsawwassen Final Agreement initialed today at a ceremony at the Tsawwassen Long House. The Agreement, which is subject to ratification by the Tsawwassen First Nation and the provincial and federal governments, will give the TFN governing powers, $13.9 million and a total of 724 hectares of land.

“It was an honor to witness this historic ceremony,” says Maria DeVries, Delta Chamber of Commerce president. “It’s a new beginning and we hope this is a positive step towards economic viability for our neighbours the Tsawwassen First Nation.”

“As a business community, we know it is important to have certainty regarding land and land use,” says DeVries. “We look forward to continuing our business relationship with TFN and to the opportunity of assisting and even exploring mutual economic benefits with them in their business endeavours.”

Although the treaty must still be ratified, DeVries says the Chamber welcomes the news because it provides certainty and stability with respect to land claims.
