Delta Chamber Supports Unique Tilbury Project

The Delta Chamber of Commerce is a leader of the Tilbury Eco-Industrial Partnership that is evolving and gaining momentum in Delta. Around the world, businesses have worked with each other, local governments, research facilities, and utility companies to save money by:

▪ reducing energy consumption, water consumption and truck traffic
▪ attracting new businesses that complement existing operations
▪ leveraging funds, up to 20:1, to complete innovative energy and materials efficiency improvements that reduce costs
▪ increasing profitability by sharing environmental monitoring, management and waste treatment expenditures
▪ sharing services like training, security, crime prevention and marketing

This concept of working together to share resources for maximum financial, environmental and social benefit is called Eco-Industrial Networking [EIN].

A partnership has been formed in Tilbury to foster EIN throughout the entire Tilbury industrial area. This project will be the second largest eco-industrial retrofit in North America as it extends from Highways 99 to 91 and between Burns Bog and the Fraser River.

A local EIN Advisory Committee is in place, representing the Delta Chamber of Commerce, BC Hydro, Schenker Pacific Logistics, Terasen Gas, Taylor Munro Energy Systems, the Delta Recycling Society, the Burns Bog Conservation Society, The Corporation of Delta, the GVRD, and The Eco-Industrial Group. The Committee provides strategic direction for the project; provides monetary and in-kind support; and maintains contact and educates their constituents regarding EIN. The committee also promotes the Tilbury Partnership to business, the community, governments and NGOs.

Some specific objectives of the Project are to:
▪ work with all partners to define unique industrial strategies that meet the social, economic and environmental goals of the Tilbury community. Common goals will be identified
▪ integrate EIN strategies into industrial park design and planning
▪ produce EIN guidelines, best practices and economic development strategies to attract
new businesses
▪ position Tilbury as a showcase industrial community to support other business and community leaders in the area of sustainable design and economic development

We invite you to review a Power Point presentation on the Eco-Industrial Networking.
